“It drove the gasoline up a little bit short term”
MISLEADING
What the record shows
Gas prices rose from $3.10/gallon at Trump's January 2025 inauguration to $2.80 in January 2026, then surged to $4.50 by May 2026 following the Iran attack decision. As of November 2026, prices remain around $4.14-$4.28/gallon.
Prices did rise sharply in early 2026, but characterizing a 40%+ spike as 'a little bit' and 'short term' understates the magnitude and duration of the increase.
