“We had a period of forty nine years where we lost many car plants but not one was built”
MISLEADING
What the record shows
Foreign automakers built multiple new U.S. assembly plants in the 1990s-2000s (BMW, Daimler-Benz, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Volkswagen). Domestic automakers had a gap in new plant construction, particularly during 2010s recovery from 2008-09 recession.
Claim conflates absence of domestic automaker plants with no new plants built. Foreign manufacturers actively constructed new U.S. facilities during the referenced period.
