“The guns, the crimes, the criminals, that they've taken off the street, they've been a key part of driving these stats to the lowest level we've seen in a hundred and twenty five years.”
MISLEADING
What the record shows
Murder rate in 2025 was 4.1 per 100,000 (tied with 1955-56 for lowest since FBI estimates began in 1936). CCJ analysis using data back to 1900 suggests it may be lowest in 125 years for homicides only. Overall violent crime fell 9.3% in 2025, largest drop since 1936, but 125-year comparison for all crimes is unverifiable due to data inconsistency before 1960.
The 125-year claim applies only to murder rates, not all crimes. Speaker's plural 'stats' and 'crimes' overstates the historical comparison's scope.
