What the record shows
The U.S. did build automotive plants during the 48-year period (1976–2024), though at a reduced rate compared to recent years. Major plants opened include Toyota Georgetown (1988), Honda Ohio (1989), BMW South Carolina (1994), Hyundai Alabama (2005), Kia Georgia (2009), Tesla Nevada (2016), and others. Recent acceleration is real but the claim of zero plants for 48 years is false.
